Hope and Help For Addiction (Radio Interview with Big 550 KTRS)

I was very pleased to recently join Big 500 KTRS’s Kelley Lamb and Gordon Montgomery on air. In our discussion, we touched upon a variety of topics including what makes a good therapist, how difficult parenting can be, and some of the pressures our kids face these days. Our main focus, though, was on the subject of addiction. This is currently a major problem in our country and specifically in our region. As a licensed marriage & family therapist of over 20 years, I’ve witnessed the devastating effects that addiction can have on individuals, families, and communities.

It’s no secret that addiction of any kind (drugs, alcohol, pornography, gambling, etc.) is extremely harmful to individuals who are active addicts. It harms not only their bodies, but also their relationships, careers, finances, and spirituality. The families of active addicts also suffer greatly in many ways, one of which is a terrifying fear of what will happen to their loved one: Will he/ she continue down a road of bad decisions potentially with deadly consequences? How can my child/ spouse do this to me? Will this ever get better? How do I personally deal with all of this? These are a few common questions that family members find themselves wondering about.

Thankfully, there is help available, both for addicts and their families. The St. Louis area has one of the strongest support communities I know of. And though addiction can be hell, recovery is possible, and it is one of the greatest blessings.

If you are currently experiencing addiction or are close to someone who is, I encourage you to reach out for support. You are not alone in this journey. I’d be happy to work with you personally or assist you in finding resources that can be of help. Please contact me at 618-978-3777, or email me: DrVivianSierra@gmail.com.

I’m so excited that my website has just launched; please check back often for more postings on topics related to mental health. I’m so glad you’re here!

She creates a warm, friendly, and safe place in which to do that. From the moment you meet…you will know that she does care, you are not alone, and there may even be some fun in the process.

There’s no need to wait any longer…get off “auto-pilot,” and live your life as a full and deliberate experience. Dr. Sierra knows and understands, both personally and professionally, that to live life fully you have to live your truth with courage and daring. Living life fully and living well is your reason for being. She helps to empower you through self-awareness, learning how to create blessings out of burdens, giving and receiving love, and informing you on the “how-to’s” of reaching your goals. Dr. Sierra believes that the only thing each of us can control–or change– is our own perspective and those behaviors, beliefs and ways of being that keep us from truly living with our heart and mind.

Dr. Sierra lived it, experienced it, and has come back to embracing life. She gets it.

Whether your difficulties stem from depression, worry, substance abuse, relationships, family, loneliness, stress, grief, or loss…it’s important to face the fear, face the pain, in order to get to the love and laughter and joy. You absolutely do not have to do it alone. No one does. Dr. Sierra wants you to reconnect with yourself as a human being to experience the whole of life. Live deliberately, joyfully and with full intention. You can do it!

Dr. Sierra is available for speaking engagements!

Be willing to be daring and to do it greatly.
