Hope and Help For Addiction (Radio Interview with Big 550 KTRS)

I was very pleased to recently join Big 500 KTRS’s Kelley Lamb and Gordon Montgomery on air. In our discussion, we touched upon a variety of topics including what makes a good therapist, how difficult parenting can be, and some of the pressures our kids face these days. Our main focus, though, was on the subject of addiction. This is currently a major problem in our country and specifically in our region. As a licensed marriage & family therapist of over 20 years, I’ve witnessed the devastating effects that addiction can have on individuals, families, and communities.

It’s no secret that addiction of any kind (drugs, alcohol, pornography, gambling, etc.) is extremely harmful to individuals who are active addicts. It harms not only their bodies, but also their relationships, careers, finances, and spirituality. The families of active addicts also suffer greatly in many ways, one of which is a terrifying fear of what will happen to their loved one: Will he/ she continue down a road of bad decisions potentially with deadly consequences? How can my child/ spouse do this to me? Will this ever get better? How do I personally deal with all of this? These are a few common questions that family members find themselves wondering about.

Thankfully, there is help available, both for addicts and their families. The St. Louis area has one of the strongest support communities I know of. And though addiction can be hell, recovery is possible, and it is one of the greatest blessings.

If you are currently experiencing addiction or are close to someone who is, I encourage you to reach out for support. You are not alone in this journey. I’d be happy to work with you personally or assist you in finding resources that can be of help. Please contact me at 618-978-3777, or email me: DrVivianSierra@gmail.com.

I’m so excited that my website has just launched; please check back often for more postings on topics related to mental health. I’m so glad you’re here!
